CD/DVD drives are disappearing from computers, leaving USB storage as the only option when re-installing an operating system. Restore the USB drive using the InstallESD.dmg on the USB drive. Plug in the USB drive and open disk utility. Assuming that the InstallESD.dmg is on the windows 7 computer: Copy the InstallESD.dmg file onto the USB drive (just copy, not burning etc) Boot into the MacBook's Recovery Partition. Click on the Erase tab in the Disk Utility toolbar. After Disk Utility loads select the drive (out-dented entry with the mfg.' S ID and size) from the side list. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities' folder. You will be presented with the OS X Startup Manager, listing all bootable devices attached to your Mac.

When your Mac's screen turns off, hold down the option key while your Mac reboots. Insert the USB flash drive into one of your Mac's USB ports.
